When and where?
10am - 5.30pm. 27th March 2004.
Institute for the Blind, Mappin Street, S1.
(see a map
here)
What?
The day starts with Hilary Wainwright sharing her experiences
of working with international social forums. Most of the programme
is locally-focussed with participant-led workshops
aimed at sharing skills and knowledge and investigating issues identified
as urgent by the participants we have been in contact with so far.
In addition we'll be entertained by live music, good
food, and short films from independent film-makers.
This will be the first in a series of events and the
aim is to let the participants shape the forum; so come along, and if
what we're doing is wrong, tell us.
Who?
The launch event has been organised by a group of Sheffield activists
and community organisers who have been working together for about six
months. They are not the Sheffield Social Forum. The Forum is made up
of the participants on the day, who will include members of political
campaigns, community initiatives and the general public.
Why?
We're organising this event because we know that there
are many people in Sheffield who believe in putting people before profit,
and who believe that another world really is possible. Hopefully putting
all of those people in a room together will add creativity and enthusiasm
to ongoing projects, and spark innovative new intiatives, campaigns or
actions.
